One of the oddest things I have encountered as an indie author is the “Mean-Well Fraud”. A “Mean-Well Fraud”, a title or term I have coined myself, is someone with the best of intentions or thoughts who nevertheless wants to take advantage of you, your art form or material, and your independence. They come in many forms and want many different things. All of them, however, will have a negative impact on you if you follow through. I encountered two…..
How does one describe the sound of ice shifting in a plastic bottle? The ice water doesn’t move in perfect time with the sway of the purse around it. It is a step behind. It is a follower. Crystal clear water slides up the side, not quite reaching the black lid. Winter sunlight shines through the hall windows and shines through the clear plastic bottle. The ice is porous from melting, from being made by an old freezer. It’ll be…..
Let streamers fly and party poppers snap! It has been a year since Sleep, Requiem Series: Part One was released! The days have flown by and with all that has happened in my life as a whole, it is easy to see where the time has gone. I have learned so much in this first year, and I feel so much better moving forward into the next! I have learned that the way things have been done and may very…..
There is a common outlook in today’s society that people are generally split into two categories: extroverts and introverts. Extroverts are said to be people who gain energy through socialization and lose energy through too much time spend alone. Introverts are said to be the reverse. They are people who lose energy when socializing with others and can only recharge through quality time spent by themselves. Lesser known “ambiverts”, combinations of the two categories, exist, but more often than not,…..
There are many things to notice when you are left to your own devices in the house where you grew up. The pantry has snacks and canned goods. Yours doesn’t. Your cupboards are too small for such variety. You don’t have nuts or hard candies or ice cream cones. And cans take up too much space so they have been mostly forbidden. But you’re doing alright … just not well. The fridge has smoked salmon in the drawer. Yours doesn’t……
I always buy popcorn when I see a movie in theaters. It is my personal opinion that day-old theater popcorn is one of the finest snacks upon which one can munch. However, I also buy popcorn to help support the theater itself. Most attendees gripe about ticket prices and concession prices but don’t seem to realize that only one of those actually helps keep the theater running. The major of a ticket price goes towards the studio, to Hollywood. The…..
I am chronically ill. More specifically, I am chronically physically ill. I live in the limbo of the undiagnosed. There have been plenty of tests to show that something is indeed quantifiably wrong, yet no one can put me in the box required for treatment and development. It has been going on eight years now since I started living with the “functional disability”, the “central nervous system disorder”. I am in therapy. The kind I attend is unusual though. It…..
It seems to be an inadvertent fact that all emotions are interconnected by their strength and fervor instead of their mood. Hopping from deep, abiding sorrow and absolute elation is easier than a casual observer might think. But someone in the very throws of the emotions can see that the leap is really a simple side-step and nothing more. The very weekend that Sleep released, there were plans in place for a small party and for me to commandeer the…..
